What is RESTful API?

Imagine you have a toy robot, and you want it to do different things like wave, jump, or dance. But instead of pressing buttons on the robot, you write down simple instructions, like:

• "Wave your hand."
• "Jump up."
• "Do a dance."

You put these instructions on little cards, and the robot knows how to read them and do what you ask. This way, you don’t need to know all the robot's secrets; you just need to give the right instructions.

A RESTful API is kind of like that! It's a way for computers or programs to talk to each other using simple instructions (like the cards for your robot). One computer sends a message like:

• "Give me the weather."
• "Show me today's top videos."
• "Post this picture."

And the other computer understands what to do and sends back the answer or does the action.

RESTful APIs make it easy for different programs to work together, just like the robot and the cards!
